Eyes are the windows to the soul and you know how careful we are when it comes to our eyes. But what about just a plain regular window? They allow us to see outside of our houses and vehicles, they let sun light in, which is important to every day life and they make our homes look warm and inviting and less like a just bunch of bricks.
There’s nothing worse than dirty windows. Well maybe a freshly cleaned window with streaks — I think that’s worse. So what is the the secret of clean windows without streaking? You may think the easy answer is to hire professional cleaners to take care of that for you but that isn’t very practical. It’s your home and only your hard work and determination will get your windows dirt free and streak free.
With any job done right, you need the right tools and that’s goes for cleaning as well. The correct supplies makes window cleaning easier so look at the supplies you normally use to make sure they aren’t preventing the streak-free windows you desire. What you have may be very good at cleaning the windows but also very good at leaving streaks — it’s at this point, it may be better to make your own window cleaner.
A homemade window cleaning solution works just as well as commercially produced cleaners and may do a better job of reducing the ugly streaks that often occur — gather these ingredients then follow these steps to prepare your homemade cleaning solution.
1 gallon of water
1 cup of white vinegar
1 table of dish washing soap
In a bucket, pour in your water, stir in the vinegar and add the dish washing soap. Put some of the mixture in a spray bottle to use it like a
commercial cleaner or leave it in the bucket if you plan to wipe it on with a cloth.
You have the right cleaning product, now you need the right cleaning tool. Choose something that doesn’t leave lint and helps prevents streaks. Microfiber cloths eliminate the lint left by other cloths, squeegees are great to wipe away the cleaning solution and newspaper (regular black and white newsprint, not the inserted ads or colored comic section) eliminates the lint that comes with paper towels. Unused coffee filters are similar to the newspaper option in that it eliminates lint but it doesn’t have the ink of the newspaper so your hands won’t end up covered in ink.
